My Walking Down The Beach Playlist

by Mia M.

Hello, my dear sweet internet friends – let me tell you something: your girl has been lazy. I mean disgustingly, hedonistically lazy. The kind of indulgent that would shock you. It’s like I saw the laid back Gold Coast lifestyle, decided to grip it by the throat and steal it for myself.

In my defense, it actually hasn’t been entirely my fault. One of the girls I’m with, Deniz, is ill – she has a cold, bad ankles, more that I can’t remember right now – so we can’t do anything too strenous anyway. Not that I’m complaining; with all the sleep I’ve got over the past few days, jetlag is but a distant memory and I’m pretty sure I’m working through a backlog of missed sleep from back in London.

That said, despite my laziness, the one thing I have been doing religious is walking along the beautiful beach behind our apartment. I’ve been getting up every morning at 5 and going for an hour or two walk along the beach on my own and listening to my tunes. It’s beautiful and calming (plus, a perfect time to call my friends back home and get that gossip. My best friend may have met the new love of her life and I need those updates).

Naturally, as with everything in this bleak and pitiful life, my walks along the beach require a backdrop of music – and today I’m sharing my “walking along the beach” playlist with you all! Enjoy.

My Walking Along The Beach Playlist

1. Billie Eilish – Ocean Eyes

Uh . . . how did nobody tell me about Billie Eilish before? She’s freaking iconic. (Although I am genuinely concerned about her mental wellbeing, because I discovered her through an interview video where she was explaining a song about her hating herself and it was literally a cry for help.) Her voice is so chilled and haunting; it gives me goosebumps.

2. Vanessa – Meditate

As I’m writing this a day or two before posting, I’m not sure if her post has gone live yet, but Priya has a post planned about this exact song. In one word, the feeling is: shook. Vanessa is a Youtuber and, for once, there is a Youtuber that’s . . . actually made good music? It sounds like an oxymoron, Youtuber and listenable, but she’s actually gone and done it! Meditate is a really chilled, RNB kind of track.

3. Ariana Grande – God Is A Woman

Is this necessarily a beach tune? No, but it is just generally a tune.

4. Florence and the Machine –  Big God

5.  Florence and the Machine – What The Water Gave Me

Okay, so sure I may be obsessed with Florence and the Machine . . . but to be fair, her voice has the same captivating, uplifting, solemn and commanding presence that the sea has.

6. Florence and the Machine – Never Let Me Go

7. The Killers – Wonderful Wonderful

Is it a playlist of mine if The Killers don’t get a mention? Not a worthwhile one. I’m obsessed with the dark, moody atmosphere of this song . . . it took me seeing it live to fall in love with it, but I fell and I have no regrets.

8. Panic! At The Disco – Hey Look Ma I Made It!

Fun fact: Panic! At The Disco’s latest album is one of the main reasons I moved out to Australia . . . well, in a roundabout way. One of the first two tracks they dropped, Say Amen For The Wicked On The Weekend, is just so fun and exciting that I thought “okay, I need to step up my weekend game and do something fun” and here I am!

9. Twenty One Pilots – Car Radio

Moody Twenty One Pilots tracks are never a no.

10. Alt J – Breezeblocks

10. Tove Lo – Habits Stay High (Hippie Remix)

11. Lykke Li – I Follow Rivers (Magician Remix)

Okay, so this song is a big love of mine; it just makes me think of my best friend and dancing in her kitchen with her big speakers.

12. Pearl Jam – Rearview Mirror

You know how some songs will instantly take you to certain place or give you a certain mood? For me, Pearl Jam will always take me back to a beach in Mexico, where I used to go and sit on a wall and look at the sea late at night.

13. Rob Curly – 11:11

Okay, Priya, I need you to listen to this and love it because nobody knows Rob Curly and I’m? Confused? If you like chilled out rap, he’s a winner.

14. Rob Curly – Paradise

15. The Weeknd – Kissland

Still one of my favourite The Weeknd songs? You got it.

Well, kids, here we are . . . at the end of the post! I have to admit, it was a real challenge to limit myself to only these songs (my actual beach playlist is topping 150 tracks), but these are just some of the highlights. I hope you guys enjoyed this post – are you familiar with any of these songs/artists? Are you going to check any out? Let me know your thoughts down below!

Peace,
