How To Grow Your Website’s Views Monthly (Even When You Aren’t Active!)

by Mia M.

Hello, you smart, beautiful, charming humans – how are you all doing today? Feeling every inch as delectable as you are? Great, this is what we like to hear!

If you’ve been following me for a long time . . . Well, first of all, thanks. I know I’m hardly the best blogger at times. And secondly, you will probably be familiar with my posts spilling the tea on blogging. For you latecomers, it’s exactly what it sounds like – I tackle an aspect of blogging that I think may be useful for other people and I share my tips.

This post is another addition to the series – and today we’re going to be tackling growing your website’s monthly views/traffic. Because, let’s be real, nobody wants to blog if all of their posts are just out there getting ignored. (And the more views on your blog . . . the more money you’re earning.)

Best of all, though: these tips will make sure that your blog is growing sustainably – even when you aren’t actively blogging.

I know – your blog growing even when life gets too busy to invest time into it? A shocking concept. However, as evidenced by the fact that my site’s views are (somehow) growing month on month even though I practically disappeared for a few months, it’s definitely possible! So let me tell you all how.

1. Pinterest

Oh. My. God. When I tell you that I cannot recommend getting on board the Pinterest train enough, I am not kidding. There are multiple reasons for this:

  • You don’t need a large following for Pinterest. (Or any really.) Unlike other social platforms, Pinterest acts as a search engine too – and people will be recommended your Pins based off of enjoying similar content. So, even if you only have 10 followers, it’s very much possible for your Pins to gain big traffic.
  • Pinterest content is evergreen.* Once you pin it, it’s on the website – and, much like the previous point touches on, that means it’ll be recommended to people and pop up under searches forever. It’s a great source of sustainable traffic.
  • You can reach a super targeted audience outside of your blog following. Pinterest is fantastic at driving traffic towards niche blog posts your audience might not view. For example, not everyone in my audience will want to read my DIY posts – but, using Pinterest, I can gain a lot of traffic from people specifically interested in DIYs.

*Let’s expand on the “evergreen” point and how this benefits your blog . . .

Crazy, right? All of that traffic arrived passively through sharing my post on Pinterest. In fact, most of that traffic didn’t even come through me Pinning and repinning it. Let’s look at a breakdown of where the traffic comes from:

As you can see, most of the traffic comes from other people that have pinned the image. Which means that they’ve been recommended it, because I do not have that many followers. (I wish.)

In all honesty, I recommend posting Pins from your site once or twice daily. I personally use Tailwind to schedule my Pins in advance; this means I can just spend a day or two out of the month “bulk-pinning” and so it goes out automatically! If you want to try out the paid version of Tailwind for a month free to see if it works for you, use my referral link!

(There’s a Tailwind case study coming up for those of you who are interested in that kind of thing.)

2. Optimise Your Website’s Top Performing Pages!

This tip, my beautiful people, is a goldmine not just for views . . . but for earning money too. If you look at your stats and find your highest-performing pages, there are multiple ways you can optimise them to a. improve that traffic. And b. get that traffic flowing to the rest of your website.

Here are a few of my favourites:

1. INBOUND LINKS/CROSS PROMOTE YOUR ARTICLES

First of all, you want to be sharing your other relevant content on that page! If one of your DIYs has blown up, make sure you’ve added a section at the bottom with “if you liked this DIY, try these:”.

The goal of this tip is to encourage people that have land on your successful post to keep reading more of your content!

2. UPDATE/ IMPROVE SHAREABLE IMAGES

We’ve already spoken about why Pinterest is such an important social media tool . . . you can guess why going back and creating high-quality images can help your posts out.

3. STREAMLINE THE CONTENT

Basically, just go in and improve it. If you’re a rambler like me, cut out the crazy-intro, so that people are getting what they came for quickly. If your post isn’t laid out properly, or you didn’t include headings . . . go back in and fix that. Your popular posts are generally your first chance to make a good impression on people.

The more people enjoy your content, the more likely they are to share it.

3. Invest Time Into SEO (Search Engine Optimisation)

I’ve spoken about SEO so many times on this blog – and that isn’t changing now! If you want the big views (and without having to rely on constantly updating your website), you want Google to sit up and take notice of your posts.

It’s the difference between 800 and 8,000 views on a post. If you post a product review and your audience view it, great – that’s 800 views. If Google sees it, that’s 800 new views a week.

Now, search engine optimisation is a massive topic to get into – and I’ve already written an in-depth guide to SEO for bloggers that you can read here, so I’m just going to link to that. Don’t look at me like that; this post’s wordcount is already nearing 1000.

Okay, my lovelies, those are my top 3 tips for making sure that your blog’s traffic grows month on month, even if you aren’t regularly updating! I hope you guys enjoyed this post and found something new to try! Are you guys using these methods already? Are you planning to? Let me know your thoughts down below!

Peace,
