Today’s post is the second in a mini DIY-self-care series I’ve got coming your way throughout October. (And if you missed the first post, a DIY mindful colouring book, definitely have a read of that too.)
Our first DIY was a mindful hobby to help you relax . . . but today I’m going to help you all indulge in the ultimate form of relaxation: a relaxing bath. There is nothing better than sinking into a hot, bubbly bath at the end of the day and feeling all your aches and pains just melt away.
It’s divine. I honestly don’t know how I went the past 2 years without having a bath in any of the places I lived. Now I have one, I fully appreciate what sacrilege that truly was.
Now, if you’re anything like me, the thought of bath bombs fills you with joy. The colours, the fizz and . . . the glitter. It’s everything I love in a pretty little ball. I’ll unashamedly admit that I’m more than happy to spend $10+ on a bath bomb from Lush as a rare treat.
That said . . . that is pretty expensive. And, with most of your guys moving into Autumn and spending more time inside trying to keep warm, I wanted to DIY you a cheaper option. Plus, because it’s October, I thought we could try creating bath bombs with a little bit of a witchy twist too!
For these bath bombs, I’ve tweaked a recipe from Hello Glow – but definitely go check out the original post and their general site because they’ve got amazing DIYs up!
While I naturally love this DIY as a treat for yourself, I reckon a 10-pack would also make a pretty fabulous DIY gift for someone too!
YOU WILL NEED:
- Black gel food colouring
- 1/3 cup baking soda
- 1/3 cup citric acid
- 1/4 cup Epsom salts
- 3 tablespoons coconut oil melted
- Bath bomb moulds –
- Essential Oils
- (For decoration, optional) Dried flowers
WHAT YOU NEED TO DO:

- Mix the baking soda, citric acid and Epsom salt.
- Melt your coconut oil and add to the mix until it’s the consistency of wet sand.
- Add in a few drops of black food dye and essential oils to your mix. (I tested two batches of this, so ran out of black food dye on the second batch – but I like the dark green/black it comes out. The more gel you add to the mix, though, the deeper the black will be)
- Pack your mixture tightly into a bath bomb mold.
- Leave to set overnight . . . then drop and go!
And that’s it! Once you have all the ingredients and the mould, the fun thing about this is that you can just . . . make your own bath bombs! I tested two batches of the recipe (let’s not talk about the first one. I don’t know why I thought ingredients that are activated by water needed water to mix them together) and I still have tons of everything left.
I told you that the mood for 2020 was crumbling capitalist giants by making things rather than buying them.
