Healthy Shots! (The Easiest Way To Get Your 5-A-Day)

My friends, I clearly missed my calling as a rocket scientist or a philosopher because I have just solved one of the greatest mysteries of our time.

Hello, my favourite internet junkies, what’s life thrown at you today? Oh, really? That sounds awful. Well, don’t worry because Mama Mia is here (Don’t. Fucking. Say. It.) to make it all better. Today, I am sharing my magic trick with you; my life’s work, my legacy.

You know how Jesus made wine? The big J has nothing on this. It sounds impossible, but guys . . . I made shots healthy. Now, when am I going to get my own cult spanning the ages pls? I’ll wait.

Let me tell you a tale: At my core, I am a good Catholic girl. Angelic, some may say.

Unfortunately, this world just corrupts poor innocents like me and . . . well, Britain’s drinking culture is no joke. (God, I love this country.)

Through entirely no fault of my own – we’ll start with my parents and work our way down from there – I actually am not a Catholic girl at all and my prayers are pretty much reserved for my liver post-Saturday night. It was as I was making myself a smoothie on one such post-Saturday Sunday morning that I was hit with . . . inspiration.

Follow my train of thought and see if you get me.

  • Ew, smoothies.
  • Last night was fun.
  • I really don’t want to drink this.
  • Blerg.
  • Why do we even shot alcohol?
  • Yep, nope I was right this is gross . . .
  • Karma I swear to fucking god if this doesn’t count as penance, I want a refund.
  • Wait – back to shots. We shot because in their right mind wants to sip on bloody tequila.
  • Well, I don’t want to sip on this

Inspiration hit me. If I can shot shit that is awful for me (hello, Tequila), why can’t I shot things that are healthy?

So welcome to today’s post.

If you remember my Week In The Life post, you may remember me briefly mentioning this. And if you don’t, isn’t it just so convenient that the video is embedded right here?

Essentially, the idea is this: instead of making massive smoothies padded out with super sugar-full (and delicious) fruits and juices and yogurts . . . make teeny tiny “super smoothies” with all the things we don’t actually want to eat but definitely should and shot them.

Things that you could try putting in these shots:

  • Kale
  • Spinach
  • Carrots
  • Brocolli
  • Cucumber
  • Tomatoes

Now, I won’t lie to you – these burn just as much as vodka does going down. It’s not pleasant and . . . well, you don’t even get drunk off them. However, they’re a great way to get some of your essential nutrients into your diet quickly and relatively painlessly.

Okay, folks, that’s it for today’s post! If you’re into your healthy eating, make sure you check out My Healthy 5 Min Breakfast and My 2 Ingredient Fruit Pancakes for some simple breakfast inspo – and take a follow of my healthy eating Pinterest board!

Have you guys ever tried healthy shots? Would you give these a go or are you going to be sticking to shotting tequila like God intended? Let me know your thoughts down below!

Peace,

      1. Watching Star Wars attack of the clones. That scene where Padme tells Anakin he will always be that little boy… brilliant.
Best is the Maori security chief who just looks over as if to say…. Jesus Christ of the star Wars universe or not, i will break his neck if he takes one leg or wing off my plate

I have to try these shots ASAP! Who doesn’t want some extra vitamins?

Why thank you! As long as they’re a laugh, I’m happy 🙂 And exactly – especially when they’re so easy x

  2. Hannah – Hello there! My name is Hannah and I am a 22 year old lifestyle blogger who loves travelling, coffee and social media. Welcome to my corner of the Internet.

Pret do a cleansing shot with ginger and apple juice and it is literally the best thing when you can feel yourself getting ill. I too hate sipping on smoothies so the idea of being able to take a shot and be done with it appeals to me. xx

Ooooh I’ve never heard of/tried that but it sounds fab! I will bear it in mind because I always hear great things about ginger. And girlll then this is for you!xx

It is quite expensive for what it is but works so well! Should probably look into making it myself. xx

Ahahaha god I relate to that – but with my skin’s tendencies to fuck me over, I need all the good food I can get! xx

  3. What a helpful blog post! Normally healthy shots sort of scare me… However, I’m definitely down to try out these ones. I’ve started drinking matcha tea every morning and gosh it’s amazing – you should give it a go <3 Have a wonderful week Mia xx

Aww thank you so much, Karen! I actually do drink matcha – I love it, it’s like green tea on steroids 😀 You have a brilliant week to my lovely <3 xx

Aha anything to make being healthy a bit easier, right?

  4. Never tried these but I heard for them. The way you wrote this post was so fun to read – I actually smiled all the way through the post!:’D Not big fan of to many mixed greens but as you said, if I can do vodka than I should also try these haha! xx

Awww thank you so much! I totally get you – I’m not a massive fan either, but if it’s over in a minute…. well, why not eh?xx

  5. H.A.Ivy – I mean, to be frank with you do people actually read these? Undecided. I do know it's an excellent thing to write when you're trying to procrastinate from literally anything else. Technically I'm supposed to write on these for another obligation but you know what-we'll procrastinate on that one too. Mainly because people will be reading and judging that one. Though if you've gotten this far it's probably because you're genuinely hoping to find information about me, and to put it simply, there's not much to tell. I'm a fairly average person who prefers to have panic attacks about small things, and then when something's big I say "ah screw it" and move on with my life because who has time to dwell, not me that's who. Not with college and other stressful life requirements like not procrastinating on things. But in all seriousness, if you have made it this far, kudos to you. I'm H.A.Ivy, or Ivy, or Hazi or random girl that should shut up. I'm old (there's still a "teen" slapped after my age number so I'll let you figure it out), I enjoy writing, playing video games, and annoying my family. And of course, my ultimate goal is to take over the world, after I finish whatever this is.

Honestly, my future has been fulfilled, I’m learning so much for when I have to adult.

Thanks girly! They don’t taste awesome, but the health benefits are worth it x

Lol Mia, I’m already cracking up just at your intro. First of all, you called yourself “Mama Mia” & then you referred to Jesus as the Big J.

I’m nervous to try those shots so I’ll just stick to tequila & vodka since I can get drunk off those & stop tasting them after awhile. Such a creative & great idea though!!!

Why thank you 😉 And um… hungover mia is not responsible for any possible blasphemy she may have typed 😀

I can’t blame you on that girl! At least tequila and vodka are fun ;-; Thanks for reading, Hunida <3

Aww I wish I loved them! I have to really force myself *sigh*

  9. Holy shit this is genius. I am the equivalent of an eight year old child when it comes to eating my five and two a day, some days I just don’t, but this feels like such a good option??? Like definitely post-Saturday night?? I went out for my birthday and Saturday and would have really appreciated seeing this post on Sunday morning!! xx

    1. crystalsandcurls – I'm going through a bit of an existential crisis right now, I'll tell you about myself when I figure out if I'm real or not.

Ahaha thank you, I fully expect to be taught about in history lessons for years to come 😉 And YES EXACTLY like bro you can’t expect me to SIT DOWN AND EAT FUCKING BROCOLLI, I don’t hate my life. DRINKING it in a shot though? Achievable. Also OMG IT WAS YOUR BIRTHDAY? HAPPY BIRTHDAY PRIYA, MORE HEALTH MORE WEALTH BBYGIRL! <3 <3

Thanks girly! And no exactly like it’s not something I want to sip slowly, get it all done quickly as possible x

  10. Nourished Naturally – I believe in a holistic lifestyle, that incorporates balancing your physcial, mental and social health in a simple and natural way. I have grown up as an athlete and have learn't so much about health and fitness from these experiences. I have also completed studies as a personal trainer, swimming coach and now a physiotherapist. In my spare time I love to cook, read and hang out with my friends and family (including my new puppy)!

I still can’t muscle up the courage to have a green shot each day despite knowing the health benefits of them!

  11. Rossy Galaxy – Pacific Northwest – I'm a full-time SAHM to an energetic 5 year old boy and I'm married to my best friend. / / I love makeup, photography and cars.

I think I would like to try them at least once but I don’t think i could do a shot of kale. I didn’t like it in smoothies, the taste was much too strong for me lol.

  12. Jessica – A 27-year-old American expat working remotely in Western Europe.

I prefer doing shots as well! I am so slow at drinking anything, smoothies turn brown before I can finish them. I am been using a greens powder because I am lazy though haha.

  13. seaofwordsx – Christina, 27 years old, blog about my journey in life, loving yourself and mental health 🌸

I never tried this before so I may try this. I always drink smoothies with fruits. This was such a funny post haha you are awesome
