August Income Report: How I Earn Money As A Small, Hobby Blogger

Hello, beautiful people, and welcome back to my corner of the web! I hope you’re all faring well today – and feeling nosy. Does anyone else love snooping through other bloggers’ income reports? I love it – they’re so inspiring!

The financial year here in Australia restarted in July – and it got me thinking about money. While I’ve been more consistent with this blog in 2021, I haven’t necessarily been very business-minded about it.

Well . . . I’d like to change that. So today I’m going to be sharing my first income report of 2021 – and hold myself accountable to (hopefully) beating it! I’d like to quit my day job by the end of the year . . . let’s speak it into existence!

**Disclaimer – this post is by no means meant to be bragging. I don’t earn a ton of money from this site, but I love reading other small blogger’s income reports and being inspired. And – as a blogger with a small following and no social media – if I can earn money, so can you!**

My August Earnings Breakdown:

I get paid in a couple of different currencies, so I’ll tally up the totals in AUD (Australian dollar) at the end.

Sponsored posts: AUD $250 – £136

Ads: £180 – AUD $344

Shopstyle Affiliate: £51 – AUD $95

AWIN affiliate program: – £157 if you aren’t already signed up to AWIN, sign up through my link here! – AUD $294

Amazon affiliate program: USD $15 – AUD $20

Aliexpress affiliate program: – USD $33 – AUD $44

That’s a total of AUD $1047!

As I said, I don’t earn tons from this website – but my earnings this month covered my rent and, as a part-time student, every little helps! However, I definitely have some plans to improve these earnings in the next few months . . .

Shall we take a look?

Blog Goals For September:

When setting these goals I had my overall strategy in mind – that being “use Keysearch to create SEO optimised posts people are actively searching for“. (If you want to use Keysearch, sign up here and use code KSDISC for 20% off!)

  • Consistently post – at least 11 posts!
  • Plan Christmas content and maybe start making some of the crafts already. I’ve managed to write posts out until the 28th September so far, so hopefully we can get everything scheduled up til December!
  • Post 4 Youtube videos
  • Use Keysearch to optimise at least 8/11 posts (some things – like income reports – just aren’t worth it)
  • Accept more sponsored posts – I hope this doesn’t sound bratty, but I’m pretty selective when it comes to sponsored posts. I sometimes see it as “my audience might not like it, it’s probably not going to work long-term in terms of SEO traffic and if it’s only $20 there’s no point“. However, I really want to save as much money as possible to reinvest into the blog, so I want to start accepting more.

Alright, my loves, we shall end at the end! I hope you enjoyed this post – and a little glimpse behind the curtain of my blog. I’d be really interested in doing these posts monthly, so let me know if you’d want that! Do you guys monetize your websites? What are your blogging goals for September? 1. Girl – this was so interesting to read. I don’t make anything from my posts because I’ve kinda stepped back and it’s much more casual but it’s sick to see how your hard work pays off!! Also miss u x

  2. It’s amazing that you can make a lot from blogging! I hope this month brings you more opportunities and that you’re able to increase your hustle income a little bit! Em x

  3. I’m impressed with the amount you make through ads and the awin affiliate network. I need to look into that! I always rationalize my sponsored posts with how much time it will take. Your time is valuable too!

  4. I love that you share how you make money blogging, as well as why you want to accept more sponsored posts. I think sticking to your own blog guidelines is important, but there is no reason why what you accept cannot change a little to fit your new goals. 🙂

  5. It’s fantastic that you are able to make enough from your blog to cover your living expenses. I’m sure you’ll do even better with more planning. I do make money from my blog through affiliate sales and sponsored posts but I should probably be more goal oriented with it.

  6. Congratulations Mia! That’s really exciting! I think any amount of money made from blogging is great because we’re finding ways to earn an income doing what we love. I wish you all the success for this month and hope you can reach your goals! I love posts like these and am happy to hear it’s something you’re thinking of doing! Thanks for sharing!

  7. Thank you for sharing your income report! It gives me hope that one day I’ll be able to make money off my blog. All I have to do is be more consistent which is hard for me 😅
