A Simple Smart-Casual OOTD ft. AbsolutelyOlivia

Hello, my dear sweet beautiful babies. If you’re unlucky and you work a full 5 day week . . . first of all, I am very sorry, but second: you’re probably back to work today. So I’m even more sorry.

In the spirit of the working week, the first post to kick off my collab-month is with the wonderful AbsolutelyOlivia and it’s dedicated to finding you an outfit for work that’s smart, but still cute. (So the kind of outfit that I don’t actually wear to work, because your girl is lazy when it comes to looking good for work. And by lazy I mean fundamentally against the prospect.)

In winter, I confess to not caring about how I look . . . well, pretty much at all. Winter fashion bores me, winter weather drives me to hibernate in my room all the time and I’m too pale to be flattering anyway. Caring just really sets myself up for disappointment, you know?

However . . . it is now Spring. We are now in the season of positivity and rebirth and my desire to look like a presentable human being has been rekindled. So I’m going to at least pretend to care. That’s all you can really ask, right?

We each created an smart-casual look, perfect for the office and drinks after work; this is my one and you can take a look at Olivia’s here.

I decided to go with something super comfy and causal; a loose blazer that I’d really prefer to be fitted, a white top and the coolest lace-up faux leather trousers ever, a la River Island. The leather adds a touch of I’m-not-a-sad-corporate-sell-out, which I think is nice and let’s me pair it up with some cool silver jewellery relatively well.

Plus, this entire outfit is made up of basics – so not only can you wear pretty much everything again (aside from the unflattering blazer; can we leave oversized blazers behind in school please?), you’ve probably got something similar in your wardrobe already.

In case you haven’t heard of Olivia, she’s a brilliantly talented blogger – at an insanely young age! – and she is killing the style and social media game. I haven’t got my shit that together and I’m 20 in December! (Dear God, that is an entirely terrifying concept . . . break out the anti-wrinkle cream.)

I highly recommend giving her a follow – you won’t regret it.

Yes, I did pose in entirely un-flattering head positions for all my outfit photos. I’m not a model, sue me.

I personally love the choker I’m wearing; I bought it from Topshop last year and it’s so rock’n’roll, but super pretty too.

Okay, so that’s pretty much this post done. I hope those of you that are back at work aren’t hating your lives too much – I join you in the gallows tomorrow, don’t worry! Make sure you check out Olivia’s post – her style is awesome and I’m super excited to steal- I mean, check it out.

In case you missed my “What’s Coming Up In Spring!” post, this is the first of an entire month of collab posts! (Exciting stuff, right?) Make sure you’re checking in regularly to discover some awesome new content creators – and some awesome new content. Remember, if you want to get involved, feel free to leave a comment or shoot me an email at: crystalsandcurls@mail.com.

Did you guys like my outfit? What was your favourite part? What’s your go-to business casual outfit? Are you on the fancier side or do you like your casual wear too much to cheat? Let me know your thoughts down below!

Peace,

Ok ok looking good girl!!! The blazer and lace-up pants are super perfect together, and I love how this is still your style even though you’re having to dress for (ugh) work 😉

    1. Thanks gorgeous girl! I only just got home (boo) so reading your post now – super excited! xx

You look very nice lovely. Love the minimalism on you. xx

    1. Thank you gorgeous girl! I’m really loving more minimal looks at the moment xx

  3. H.A.Ivy – I mean, to be frank with you do people actually read these? Undecided. I do know it's an excellent thing to write when you're trying to procrastinate from literally anything else. Technically I'm supposed to write on these for another obligation but you know what-we'll procrastinate on that one too. Mainly because people will be reading and judging that one. Though if you've gotten this far it's probably because you're genuinely hoping to find information about me, and to put it simply, there's not much to tell. I'm a fairly average person who prefers to have panic attacks about small things, and then when something's big I say "ah screw it" and move on with my life because who has time to dwell, not me that's who. Not with college and other stressful life requirements like not procrastinating on things. But in all seriousness, if you have made it this far, kudos to you. I'm H.A.Ivy, or Ivy, or Hazi or random girl that should shut up. I'm old (there's still a "teen" slapped after my age number so I'll let you figure it out), I enjoy writing, playing video games, and annoying my family. And of course, my ultimate goal is to take over the world, after I finish whatever this is.

This is a great look, but how comfortable are the pants?

    1. Thanks girly! They’re honestly pretty comfy 🙂

Wow, then I’ve decided they’re really Ginchy then!

  4. I love your choice of outfit, comfortable yet still effortlessly chic. Even though I am (only) a full time student, it can be tough when you have a long day of lectures and work ahead. I’m not one to opt for joggers, yet still want my outfit to be comfy. I think tights don’t get enough credit! They are SO stretchy and all you have to do is throw on a dress or skirt and out the door you go.

    1. GIRL yes! Tights are a big yes 🙂 I feel like comfy yet still stylish clothing doesn’t get enough credit tbh x

  7. K.M. Sutton – I am a country girl living on the Upper East Side of the concrete jungle. My friends call me a modern day Renaissance woman. I have dabbled in a little bit of everything, from being a yoga instructor to holistic chef, to skating coach, to glorified nanny, to student. I am a self admitted coffee junkie. A wannabe mermaid. A wanderluster who dreams of other countries. A fashionista who really does need a bigger bank account. But most important of all, I dream of living in a bungalow by the ocean and being a published writer (in style of course) sipping coffee in the morning and a martini in the evening. I love to meet my readers, so feel free to comment or email me. Happy reading!

    THOSE PAAAAANTS!

I actually work a corporate 9-5 and refuse to play by the rules. Lately I’ve been trying though—I wore a blazer (fancy) with my harem pants and combat boots and my coworkers damn near fainted.

I love this look! Very chic!

So I’m a complete minimalist and live in black and white – super creative I know! But it means that I love this outfit!! I use to live in blazers and people kept telling me that I looked like I was heading to work and so I stopped. But now I want to bring them back into my wardrobe. You look beautiful in the photos as well! xx

The leather trousers look incredible! Not sure I would be able to wear them to work though unfortunately. Laughing at the fact you turn 20 in December and are talking about anti-wrinkle cream – I turned 21 in January and can promise you I am still as much of a mess as I was when I was 18! xx
