My Favourite Infused Water Recipe & Why I Recommend It (Even Though I Think Infused Water Is Bullshit)

Hello, my dearest stranger danger threats, how’s life treating you today? Now that summer’s starting to kick off, I’m sure you’ve all had the reminder to stay hydrated bludgeoned into you constantly. And for those of you who don’t like water (which, for the record, baffles me) it’s the time of mass “infused water” marketing. Which, for the record, also baffles me.

Want this water bottle? Sure you do! You can pick one up just like it from FreePeople!

Here’s the thing: personally, I think infused water is somewhat bullshit. I’m sure you do get a small vitamin boost from having fruit in your water, yes, but I also think you lose most of the nutrients the fruit has to hold and you might as well just bloody eat it. But that’s just my ten cents and it’s probably useless.

If you don’t like either water or fruit, I suppose it’s a good way to get both of them in. And that’s a good enough entrance for another well-placed affiliate link.

However, there is one infused water recipe that I will swear by; that I will make myself a hypocrite for.

The Only Infused Water Recipe You Need In Your Life

And that is lemon infused water. For the past few weeks, I’ve been drinking a litre of cold lemon-infused water first thing in the morning and then another one throughout the evening when I get home. And your girl has seen benefits.

On days I have work, I cut up a lemon every night before bed, put it in a fresh litre of water and stick it in the fridge overnight. First thing in the morning, I drink the whole litre of water and replace the water (same lemons). When I get home, I drink the infused water throughout the evening.

Why do I do this?

  • Lemon has a lot of benefits
  • But lemon’s not exactly edible on its own, so it’s not a fruit I’d ever eat without sticking it in water first
  • And, y’know, “staying hydrated”

(Supposed) Benefits of lemon infused water

First off, let’s take a look at all the benefits the internet seems to think lemon water has.

  • Boost to your metabolism

Drinking water first thing in the morning can actually assist with losing weight and maintaining a healthy weight. This one has actually been proven too!

After drinking approximately 17 ounces of water, the subjects’ metabolic rates — or the rate at which calories are burned — increased by 30% for both men and women. The increases occurred within 10 minutes of water consumption and reached a maximum after about 30 to 40 minutes. (source)

  • Helps digestion

This links in with the first point, but drinling water first thing in the morning helps to flush the digestive system and hydrate your body. All good things! (I mean, I assume so anyway.)

  • Contains Anti-Oxidants

Lemons contain anti-oxidants!

  • Flushes out toxins

Who doesn’t want that?

  • Lemons contain Vitamin C and potassium

And I’m sure as hell not eating lemons on their own, so infused into water it’ll have to be.

The effects of drinking it everyday

Now, I don’t know about all of those benefits – but I can tell you the big benefits drinking lemon infused water has had on me. First and foremost? This is the whole reason I wrote this bloody post: My skin.

My skin is so much clearer! Now, I have always been a massive water drinker and so I unfortunately never seem to get the full effects of hydrating. If I stop drinking water, sure, my life goes to shit – but I already drink so much that it never has much effect.

Drink a litre of water a day for clear skin!” Alright, Susan, I’ve been doing that since I was 11 –  e x p l a i n    m y     f a c e     t o     m e       p l e a s e .

My point is not to hate on metaphorical Susan, but to show that the fact that I actually see visible difference as a result of drinking water . . . is shocking.

However, as well as improvements to my skin, I also find that drinking this really wakes me up and keeps me alert throughout the morning. (Although, I confess, that could just be the constant getting up and running to the toilet.) (But I’m an optimist.)

To conclude: Lemon Infused Water – Just A Fad?

Nah; this is one Pinterest fad that I will actually wholeheartedly stand behind.

I hope you guys enjoyed this post – and I genuinely really encourage you guys to try this for 30 days and see if you have any positive benefits! Are you guys fans of lemon infused water? What about infused water in general? And do you like my crystal water bottle? Let me know your thoughts down below!

  1. same girl same. I never got around infused water for same reasons you didn’t but lemon water is something my entire family stands behind, especially during summer, you can walk into our kitchen at any time of the day and expect to see an entire jug of ice cold water with a couple slices of lemon in it, love it so much x

        1. Coyote from Orion

I remember when I was 4 in London and our English friends took us to the pool. You guys had this chemical in the water that turned red if someone urinated. It didn’t do much when someone shat.

      1. Oh my, I LOVE the crystal themed bottle. But bummer, I’m broke af lol.”even though infused water is bullshit” made me crack up’re hilarious and relatable girl!keep up the good work.<3

      2. I love your infused water bottle – it’s so pretty! You have actually convinced me to go out and buy lemons – anything to speed up that metabolism for all the junk food I eat. xx

      3. OMG! I love that water bottle. I really want to get the one from Anthro, but can’t seem to justify it. I do love myself some Lemon Water. I usually have it in the morning before I do my yoga.

      4. Thank you for sharing this! I must confess I‘m not drinking enough water but lemon water helps me a lot. I just never really feel thirsty. Today I want to make a jug with water and lemons. Hope I will finish it! xx

        1. I think I’ll just eat the lemon 😉 actually I love eating lemons, have done since I was a kid. Although the water bottles do look lovely 😉

            1. I’m not sure, my Sister’s the same, we don’t really react to sour food so we can sit and eat it all day 😉🍋 xx

              1. your writing style is hysterical especially when you whipped out the good ole “susan” card. i enjoyed this, mostly because i think infused water is kinda bullshit too, but after this i would definitely be willing to try it out at least once.

              2. The water bottle is so pretty! I hate infused water because it seems like such a waste of fruit! Lemons are the only ones that actually change the taste of the water but I’m not a fan. I love plain water lol.

              3. Whatever it takes to get people drinking more water! My sister is someone who “doesn’t like the taste” of water, so she’s tried lemon water and cucumber water and eventually learned to like plain water too haha

              4. Girl I am just here for your gorgeous pictures! And your humor!
I am actually not a huge fan of infused water. Occasionally a lemon is nice, but I drink so much water that I prefer the neutral taste as opposed to flavored. <3

              5. I saw that crystal bottle and omg it’s so beautiful 😍 I tried lemon water and loved it. It’s amazing to read all those good benefits it has 💕 Great post!
