Hello, my dearest stranger danger threats, how’s life treating you today? Now that summer’s starting to kick off, I’m sure you’ve all had the reminder to stay hydrated bludgeoned into you constantly. And for those of you who don’t like water (which, for the record, baffles me) it’s the time of mass “infused water” marketing. Which, for the record, also baffles me.
Want this water bottle? Sure you do! You can pick one up just like it from FreePeople!
Cheap Crystal Infused Water Bottles
Here’s the thing: personally, I think infused water is somewhat bullshit. I’m sure you do get a small vitamin boost from having fruit in your water, yes, but I also think you lose most of the nutrients the fruit has to hold and you might as well just bloody eat it. But that’s just my ten cents and it’s probably useless.
If you don’t like either water or fruit, I suppose it’s a good way to get both of them in. And that’s a good enough entrance for another well-placed affiliate link.
However, there is one infused water recipe that I will swear by; that I will make myself a hypocrite for.
And that is lemon infused water. For the past few weeks, I’ve been drinking a litre of cold lemon-infused water first thing in the morning and then another one throughout the evening when I get home. And your girl has seen benefits.
On days I have work, I cut up a lemon every night before bed, put it in a fresh litre of water and stick it in the fridge overnight. First thing in the morning, I drink the whole litre of water and replace the water (same lemons). When I get home, I drink the infused water throughout the evening.
First off, let’s take a look at all the benefits the internet seems to think lemon water has.
Boost to your metabolismDrinking water first thing in the morning can actually assist with losing weight and maintaining a healthy weight. This one has actually been proven too!
After drinking approximately 17 ounces of water, the subjects’ metabolic rates — or the rate at which calories are burned — increased by 30% for both men and women. The increases occurred within 10 minutes of water consumption and reached a maximum after about 30 to 40 minutes. (source)
Helps digestionThis links in with the first point, but drinling water first thing in the morning helps to flush the digestive system and hydrate your body. All good things! (I mean, I assume so anyway.)
Contains Anti-OxidantsLemons contain anti-oxidants!
Flushes out toxinsWho doesn’t want that?
Lemons contain Vitamin C and potassiumAnd I’m sure as hell not eating lemons on their own, so infused into water it’ll have to be.
Now, I don’t know about all of those benefits – but I can tell you the big benefits drinking lemon infused water has had on me. First and foremost? This is the whole reason I wrote this bloody post: My skin.
My skin is so much clearer! Now, I have always been a massive water drinker and so I unfortunately never seem to get the full effects of hydrating. If I stop drinking water, sure, my life goes to shit – but I already drink so much that it never has much effect.
“Drink a litre of water a day for clear skin!” Alright, Susan, I’ve been doing that since I was 11 – e x p l a i n m y f a c e t o m e p l e a s e.
My point is not to hate on metaphorical Susan, but to show that the fact that I actually see visible difference as a result of drinking water... is shocking.
However, as well as improvements to my skin, I also find that drinking this really wakes me up and keeps me alert throughout the morning. (Although, I confess, that could just be the constant getting up and running to the toilet.) (But I’m an optimist.)
Nah; this is one Pinterest fad that I will actually wholeheartedly stand behind.
I hope you guys enjoyed this post – and I genuinely really encourage you guys to try this for 30 days and see if you have any positive benefits! Are you guys fans of lemon infused water? What about infused water in general? And do you like my crystal water bottle? Let me know your thoughts down below!
Peace,
